Cannot uninstall or reinstall Sophos!

Hello,

I had Sophos installed for awhile, but went and uninstalled it awhile ago but I think something went wrong during the uninstall (I believe I used the "Remove Sophos" application that came with Sophos). I currently do not see Sophos in the Applications folder (or "Remove Sophos", for that matter), or when I search "Sophos" in "All My Files." However, when I look at the Activity Manager I see multiple processes running with "Sophos" in the name (including a process called "SophosScanD" that appears about once ever 5 seconds, shows that it's using 95+% of the CPU, then disappears). I tried reinstalling Sophos, but when I run the installer it simply says "The Installation Failed. The software was not installed successfully. Remove the software and re-install." But I can't figure out a way to remove the software since Sophos doesn't appear anywhere in Finder!

I think I am running (or was running) Sophos Home Edition. I've got OS X 10.7.5. Thanks ahead of time for any and all help! I am just trying to get Sophos removed completely!

  • I'm having a problem very similar to this, the removal app does nothing; it opens and says it uninstalls but nothing changes and sophos still runs. I say still runs, but all that is left is the status bar icon which is grayed out and says it is protecting against 0 threats. When I try to reinstall sophos it gives the same installation failed error you have.

Edit: after a bit more searching on the forums i found this post with a terminal command to completely remove sophos and it worked for me

  • The uninstaller normally works fine - it's does actually remove the program and not just an empty program etc.  Try a reboot of your computer and check again in Activity Monitor.  Next step after that would be to try the install/uninstall process having rebooted to see if that cleared something locking it out of the way.

If you're still having problems maybe you can try the uninstall script if you have version 9 as well.
