Can't unlock preferences to conduct a cleanup

I'm running OS X with Sophos version 9.0.11. Today I got a message saying that Sophos has quarantined an item, but I am unable to unlock the quarantine manager to clean the item. When I click on the lock, nothing happens, no opportunity to put in password or anything. Anybody have any ideas?

Try quiting the application and rather than openning from the menu bar: open a Finder window, go to your Applications folder, and open the application from there.

Logging out and back it may also bring the padlock function back.
