Trouble Installing Sophos AV for Mac Home on Lion build 10.7.2

Was trying to install Sophos AV for Mac Home Editon on an iMac running 10.7.2 and kept receiving the following:

The installer cannot connect to Sophos, although your Mac appears to be connected to the internet. Please check your network settings and click Continue again.

For more information, please visit the support forum.

In console the following is logged:

12/11/11 10:25:23.690 PM Installer: Error Domain=NSURLErrorDomain Code=-1200 "An SSL error has occurred and a secure connection to the server cannot be made." UserInfo=0x7f82f2c670c0 {NSUnderlyingError=0x7f82f2c8f050 "An SSL error has occurred and a secure connection to the server cannot be made.", NSErrorFailingURLStringKey=https://savmacfree.register.sophos.com/, NSErrorFailingURLKey=https://savmacfree.register.sophos.com/, NSLocalizedRecoverySuggestion=Would you like to connect to the server anyway?, NSLocalizedDescription=An SSL error has occurred and a secure connection to the server cannot be made.}

Please advise.

Many thanks!

  • To add...yes, I've seen the other posts.  Yes, I've tried all the other suggestions.  No, none have resolved this issue.  Thanks!

  • sorry to repost but....I was experiencing the OTHER install error message, internet is already connected but can't download, or whatever....I shut down SugarSync, which was running in the background and had an icon on the toolbar. Then I was able to install. So you might want to try shutting down programs accessing the 'net which run in the background. Hope this helps!

  • As I've had the same issue as olliedee (but with a different dropbox-like background app), I can definitely recommend temporarily disabling any background processes that  make SSL connections.  That was my "fix" as well.  The problem hasn't resurfaced for me, even after re-enabling the other software.

  • 8.0.3 is in the middle of a rollout, so it's possible that you got a certificate mismatch as data was updating.

    Try again tomorrow and see if it works correctly.

  • Hello Andrew,

    no today I try again, the same.  The certificate (the same like here on the website) ist not valid and because that Lion don't allow to connect.

    Would be nice if sohos can fix that Problem.

    Kindless Regards

  • I had to give permission to have the GlobalSign certificat valid.  I think they had problems a while ago - I may have blocked all GlobalSign certificate.  Corrected the permission and installed
