Sophos intereference with iTunes syncing between phone and desktop

I was having huge trouble syncing my iPhone 5S and Macbook Pro (OSX10.6.8)

hours on the phone w apple tech support, and sending them all the diagnostic files of my computer, and they determined there was some intereference between Sophos and syncing.

I had to uninstall Sophos to solve the problem.

Now I would like to re-install it- do you know what the issues are, are they still there (I don't know what version of sophos I had but it was at least 2 yrs old)

or how I can avoid this problem?

Am having the same problem. With both Sophos Anti Virus for Mac and iTunes running, when I establish a USB connection from my Mac to either my iPhone or iPad I get the spinning beach ball of death for about 4 minutes. Using Apple's Activity Monitor, I find that while the beach ball is spinning, Sophos' InterCheck is running and consuming about 17% of CPU. As soon as iTunes is free and clear of the beach ball, InterCheck is observed to have dissapeared.
