Auto Update

I am using the latest version of Sophos anti-virus (free version) downloaded from the Sophos website on an iMac with the latest OSX.  The manual update works just fine, but even though I have the "Check for updates on connection to network or Internet" box ticked under Preferences, the update does not open when I log on to the Internet.  I have uninstalled and re-installed Sophos anti-virus, to no avail.  Does anyone have a solution?

    I presume that you are looking in the log accessed from the SAV preferences - Logging tab?

    This is 5 mins after connecting to the network:

    ....

    com.sophos.intercheck: spyeye-p.ide

    com.sophos.intercheck: sdad-gen.ide

    com.sophos.intercheck:

    com.sophos.intercheck: Info:  On-access scanner started at 11:10 on 31 January 2011

    com.sophos.intercheck:

    com.sophos.autoupdate: Info:  Checked primary server at 11:15 on 31 January 2011

    com.sophos.autoupdate: Sophos Anti-Virus is up to date

    com.sophos.autoupdate:

    If you can do an autoupdate manually then this entry should appear at the end of the log following an update:

    ....

    com.sophos.intercheck: qhost-av.ide

    com.sophos.intercheck:

    com.sophos.intercheck: Info:  On-access scanner started at 16:28 on 31 January 2011

    com.sophos.intercheck:

    com.sophos.autoupdate: Info:  Checked primary server at 16:28 on 31 January 2011

    com.sophos.autoupdate: Sophos Anti-Virus was updated

    com.sophos.autoupdate:
