Cannot contact server for update

**new thread at request of moderators...... Please, any support appreciated.

Hi - like many others I have had this problem, on a regular basis since first installing the home edition a month or so ago. I've tried reinstalling a couple of times, but with no success. I have got about as far as 140MB downloaded before the updater fails to contact the server.

Any further tips? Really appreciate the free nature of the software, but finding that I have no confidence in it on the basis that security software depends on being up to date.

Any help appreciated.

Is there anything in the update log to give a clue? Example:

Useful threads:

Where are the logs for SAV for Mac?

Initial troubleshooting for updating problems

Thoughts/ advice:

Uninstall and reinstall (quick and easy to see if this cures it)

Reboot and try again

Check you have enough free disk space on you main hard drive

Slow internet connection or cap preventing the download

During the update, when it hangs, open Activity Monitor and force the 'SophosAutoUpdate' process to quit and then try another update
