Need help to re-activate mac home 8.0.6

I accidentally deleted all past update downloads.   Now the sophos anti-virus 8.0.6  is no longer operative.

I have a Mac OS X 10.6.8

Can someone please tell me what to do to get it started again.   Many thanks in advance.

  • By "all past update downloads," do you mean you deleted the IDE files, or something else?

If the first, running an update should automatically fix the problem.

Otherwise, I'd suggest running the Sophos Remove.app and then re-running the installer downloadable from the website as the simplest solution.

  • Thanks for your quick reply Andrew.

First off, I am not too "Savvy" on these type things.

What I did was to delete some items in my download file I did not recognize.    Maybe that didn't have anything to do with it.

Fot the past 2 or 3 days, when I boot up in the morning I get a dialog box saying that the "On-Access Scanner is off".

Now when I click on the "AutoUpdate Status" window,  the bar continues to run (Like a horizontal barber pole) for the past 2 or 3 days.

I guess I am looking for a quick fix button to press!   If the above doesn't give you a clue I will do as you suggest and "Remove" and start all over.

Again, thanks for your valued help.

    Ken

  • "Remove and start over" is probably your best/easiest bet -- check some of the other threads on this forum for further discussion on this problem -- it doesn't have anything to do with deleting files from your downloads folder.

If reinstallation doesn't fix your problem, you may have corrupt preference files, or something may have gone strange with your network connection -- sometimes SAV seems to like to keep using the same network connection you were using when you installed it.  Switching to WiFi from an Ethernet connection has been known to cause server connection issues.

  • Andrew,

I took your advice, removed and reinstalled and everything seems to be operating as it should be.

Many thanks for your quick response to my emails.

Very comforting for a putz like me to have someone to lend a helping hand.

    Best regards,

    Ken
