I downloaded the Mac version and ran a local drive scan. STOP at around 438,xxx remaining and indicated "This scan has never been completed". I clicked on "scan now", it would start scanning at around 470,xxx remaining and stopped again
Uninstalled and installed AGAIN, ran another scan, and same thing happened. but this time ran more files......
NEED HELP!
I second that. The scan just won't run/complete, whatever I do. The 'Braber's pole' stripes run for hours, no solid bar, nothing. What am I doing wrong? Is there a users' manual will screenshots to show what a properly running scan should be like?
I have sort of the same problem, when I try to run a local scan it never even starts. It gets "stuck" and just says "calculating" but nothing ever happens. I've had it running for a couple of hours in the background but nothing has happened, will a re-install fix this?
I have asked for help concerning this same issue in this thread.
As far as I can tell this problem has not been addressed. At this point I am just looking for a way to protect my computer and Sophos does not appear to be the answer. Can anyone make a recommendation?

This definitely helps... that file resides in a .pkg or .mpkg file, and is an installer archive.
When archives are being scanned, the progress bar does not increase, even though the archive is decompressed and its contents are scanned. When the scan of the entire archive is complete, the progress bar will resume its movement.
If there is not enough room to decompress the archive (in this case, it needs to decompress the gzip archive, then decompress the pax archive inside, then possibly decompress the embedded archive inside that), scanning will fail for that file.
When you say "stopped" do you mean that your scan terminates, or that the progress bar stops moving for a number of minutes?
I'm having this problem, and the process terminates. Same crash every time.

Hi, I have same issue with every scan of my HDD stopping before completion - new install as of 10th May - I have a few saved .pkg files in a folder as useful backups. Incl. Sophos! Can these be the culprits?
But not short of disk space to decompress files while scanning.
Running a Dual G5 tower, 2GHz, 4Gb RAM, OSX10.4.11 Tiger; I also have an OS9 system folder on the drive.
Would be glad to know of a fix, apart from excluding the back-ups folder.....

Are you running 8.0.2 or 8.0.3? 8.0.3 includes a fix that looks to line up pretty well with the issues you are describing.
To test if the issue is with a specific file, try right-clicking the file and doing a selected file scan, or creating a custom scan of just that folder. If you reliably crash on that specific file and nowhere else, please submit the file via our online file submission form, indicating it is a problem file.
