How can I find the full path to a threat?

After my scan aborted partway through (after 3 days), I'm trying to use the Quarantine Manager to at least clean up what it found prior to removing Sophos AV from my system.

The second threat in the list shows exactly this for Path and Filename:

/Volumes/.../2/Second chord sounds in world's longest lasting concert - Yahoo! News.html

What am I supposed to make of this? It doesn't even show what volume it's on! And I can't find any way to expand the full path: hovering the mouse pointer over it doesn't do anything, and I can't expand the window to show more of it. I seem to be stuck.

A few lines down the list, there's this one:

/Volumes/.../XtraVol.dmg [disk image:XtraVol:...:public_html:catasex.jpg/Gzip/.s3x/pico]

Again, how does this help me? (Of course, it also says "The threat cannot be cleaned up." I wonder why.)

Maybe I'm missing something, but this just seems useless. Oh, and even though at the moment I'm only using on-access scanning (as far as I know), the program is still using large amounts of CPU and slowing the system down considerably.

I'm starting to suspect that Sophos' strategy in giving this program away was to force people to buy an upgrade that is actually usable.

  • I give up. If I'm understanding the directions (about creating new custom scans) this is an absurdly convoluted procedure for doing what should be a simple task. If I'm NOT understanding the directions, well, then, the directions shouldn't be so hard to understand.

In my list of threats in the Quarantine Manager, there isn't even enough of the path shown to make a guess at where the problems are. And I'm not about to do a full scan and wait several days for it to finish.

It was a nice gesture to release this program for free. Too bad it is effectively unusable. Goodbye.
