Problem in Cleaning Up Threats

When threats are detected..i chose to clean up threat in the Action bar...and then small window opens up which displays "Cleaning Up Threats..." and a progress bar accompanied along with it...but this goes on forever and nothing really happens...please help!

    Is the detection during on-access scanning? 

    Or during an on demand scan?

    Does progress eventually complete? 

    Is there an option to cancel? 

    However you end things, what's logged by Sophos Anti-Virus after the event?
