notification that i have this is sitting in my quarantine manager. action available says it can be cleaned up but when i opt for this it just says clean up in progress but
no clean up takes place (spinning disc!).
virus would seem to affect only windows operating systems but i feel uncomfortable with it just sitting there.
how can i effectively remove it?

The cleanup maybe be hanging because of the location. You may be able to 'Reveal In Finder' and delete the file manually. Open the Quarantine Manager and see what the path to the item is. Where is it located? Screenshot the window and post back if necessary.
