On access scanner is off - and will not switch on.

The Sophos shield on the top bar on my Mac is greyed out. I followed the instructions on your website - go into "open preferences", authenticate, and click the "start scanning" button. But it will not switch on. On access scanning remains switched off, and the shield stays grey. I have restarted the computer - no difference.

I have had Sophos for a few months and this is only the 2nd time I received the error message telling me that on access scanning was switched off.

How can I turn it on?

What SAV version is installed? Where does it say it updates from (on the 'Auto Update' tab in Preferences)? And what version of Mac OS X are you running?

I have the same problem and cannot turn on the on-access scanner. Have message Your Mac may not be secure. I've unlocked it, tried everything. Please help
I have SAV 9.0.11. My Mac is 10.6.8.

Sorry, I missed one of your questions. Under Auto Update the update location is "Sophos".

Try:

1. Reboot.

2. Try the commands from the bottom of page three of this thread...

I also get window when I start computer: SAV is not running.

Quickest thing I can suggest is to uninstall the Application and reinstall.

Download: http://www.sophos.com/en-us/products/free-tools/sophos-antivirus-for-mac-home-edition.aspx

Uninstall once downloaded: http://openforum.sophos.com/t5/Mac-tools-help/Remove-uninstall-Sophos-Anti-Virus-for-Mac-Home-Edition-the-free/td-p/14271

Reboot again after this if there is still a problem.

I had tried the instructions you gave earlier, but could not work them out. I have now tried the uninstall and then downloading the software again, and that seems to have worked. I was able to go into the preferences and switch the On access scanner back on - the S shield is now black.

For anyone else who has this problem and would like to provide feedback...if you can run the command shown on the post linked below and post back the output file before uninstalling/reinstalling that would be good!

Hi,
I have the same problem. I have followed the commands you gave in Terminal and attached is a screenshot of the savout.log. I hope it helps you because it doesn't help me! I will now uninstall/reinstall and hopefully it will sort itself out.
