Anti Virus for Mac - this scan has never been completed

I have downloaded the Sophos anti virus software for the mac. My operating system is OSX 10.4.11. I followed the download instructions and then scanned "local drives" as instructed however the scan is never completed and the message keeps coming up "This scan has never been completed"!

I have read the threads on this online forum to try and resolve the problem but you need to be a computer expert to understand the language being used, and I haven't found this to be helpful. Can anyone explain to me in plain English what the problem might be and how it can be resolved?

    I take it you're running 10.4.11 on PPC and are finding your base scan never finishes?

    Have you tried the other suggestions in this thread?  The DocumentRevisions issue is not compatible with OS X 10.4.11, as revisioning was introduced with 10.7.
