Anti Virus for Mac - this scan has never been completed

I have downloaded the Sophos anti virus software for the mac. My operating system is OSX 10.4.11. I followed the download instructions and then scanned "local drives" as instructed however the scan is never completed and the message keeps coming up "This scan has never been completed"!

I have read the threads on this online forum to try and resolve the problem but you need to be a computer expert to understand the language being used, and I haven't found this to be helpful. Can anyone explain to me in plain English what the problem might be and how it can be resolved?

thank you

  • Andrew, I have had the scan stalling problem on my Mac mini running 10.7.3 now. I don't think OS X 10.7.x fixed this.

I had this problem before the update, too, with 10.7.2, and the update to 10.7.3 from Software Update in Jan. didn't run well, and Apple Support gave me the *secret* link to download the patched 10.7.3 Client Combo Update in Feb. - no improvement, really. I recently upgraded to SA-V 8.0.2 from SA-V 7.10.3, (don't llet the similarity of SA-V number with OS X number confuse you), and haven't had time to see if SA-V 8.0.2 has fixed this, but will try it soon, and report then. A couple of days, maybe - it needs to be left to run overnight. In running it overnight, I first disable the Time Machine and set the Sleep mode and the Screensaver timeouts (Energy app in System Prefs) to, "Never."  But it stalls anyway. Does any one have a friendly tip for this new-to-the Mac idiot, as to where there might be another thing timing out after an hour or two? TNX.
