When running a virus scan, Sophos will not stop "Calculating..."

I've been using Sophos for Mac Home Edition for over a year now, with no problems.  Until a month ago.  My hard drive crashed and I had to get a new HDD installed in my iMac.  I installed Mountain Lion on this new drive and used Migration Assistant to reinstall everything else back onto my hard drive from a Time Machine backup.  Ever since, I have been unable to run a virus scan using Sophos.  When I try to "..scan all files and folders on my Mac," Sophos Anti-Virus begins by "Calculating..." - but it never moves on to the scanning phase.  Last night, it ran like this for more than two hours without ever beginning the scan.  After all this time, it still said "Calculating...".  The Sophos version installed on my iMac is 8.06C.  I have already tried uninstalling Sophos and reinstalling.  To no avail.  Does anybody know what is going on here?  And how I can fix it?

  • Thanks for the update!  I have to admit the previous post had me scratching my head.  Now we get back to the barber pole issue.... I believe the product team is looking at trying to replicate that, but attempting to isolate the issue in the forums is definitely a worthwhile task (especially for thos experiencing it who don't mind fiddling with settings and reading log files).
