Modifying proxy settings

I regularly use my Mac in an environment that requires me to manually authenticate against a proxy server. The default proxy configuration therefore makes it impossible to update while I'm in this environment. I would like to change these settings, but the proxy configuration selector is grayed out on the preferences page. Is there some other way to modify these settings?

  • when I enter that URL in the web address bar I get a warning message stating that the URL is not secure and there are some extra info, including the error code (error code: ssl_error_bad_cert_domain). This happens either with or without the proxy. It's a proxy to direct all internet connections thru a FILTER of Parent Control type, to prevent connections to porn, violence and so. Because I am using Sophos as anti-malware/virus, either I drop that filter or I drop Sophos. I was trying to keep both !
