Modifying proxy settings

I regularly use my Mac in an environment that requires me to manually authenticate against a proxy server. The default proxy configuration therefore makes it impossible to update while I'm in this environment. I would like to change these settings, but the proxy configuration selector is grayed out on the preferences page. Is there some other way to modify these settings?

  • I do not have alternative PROXY to test in my MacOSX.7 internet control pane. If SOPHOS would suggest me a proxy to test, please let me know which one.

Besides the problem that I mentioned (a remote firewall proxy prevents Sophos to be updated), I have also noticed a second thing. I wanted to modify the proxy in Sophos, to introduce in there the same proxy of the firewall (the firewall tech folks suggested to try this). But, with or without unlocked preferences, there is no way to modify/introduce a proxy in the Sophos pane. I do not understand why....
