  • I just ran Sophos on a 24" iMac with 9 external HD's attached totalling over 15 GB;s, a MacBook Pro and and a 21" iMac, and additionally, all had Time Machine volumes. The scans ran perfectly over a day and a night. Not a blip. I'm on the latest versions of Snow Leopard and Leopard.

  • I have removed everything I can find in library again and again but it keeps popping up. How can I really get these remnants fo my pc? It makes it impossible to reinstall a new, complete version. 4 files are coming back ui.list and lockfile among them. Anyone knows how this is attacked?

  • Do not manually remove components of SAV; run the uninstaller.  For those who insist on doing it manually, that process is already fully documented on here (I believe it's even in this thread).  However, one mistake in doing it manually and you won't be able to use your Mac anymore without someone doing some pretty extensive OS repair or reinstallation for you.

All you need to do to install a new, complete version of SAV HE is to run the installer.  If the installer complains that the enterprise version is already installed, then your issue is not with SAV HE, but with the enterprise version; you need to install THAT version, as documented in this thread.

All you need to do to update either version of SAV for Mac is to not disable the update system -- the software will update to new versions as they become available, as documented on here and in the software documentation itself.

If you want to switch from one product to the other, you have to run the uninstaller for the one product prior to running the installer for the other.

Please use the board search feature to search this rather long thread for the detailed instructions for the various scenarios.

  • I have installed the business version, for standalone mac, but there is no uninstall program or even folder for sophos to be found in the library

    :1005605
  • How do you control what SAV actually scans?  Like a particular folder or drive?

  • I have the free downloaded version of Sopho's home edition. It is interferring with my computer and I want it removed.

There is no "uninstall" button. I search for it, and there is only the install option. I found it in my applications, and I trashed it. I deleted my trash. It is still on my computer.  I want it off of my computer.

This is usually, in my experience, all you need to do. I thought things like this came with an uninstall package. If all else fails, I thought completely trashing it's contents would do the trick. Obviously, I am a moron. And now I have to register for this site so that I can get your product off of my computer.

Now. Anyone know what I am doing wrong? Because the first posts instructions are not helpful/ no longer apply to this addtion.

  • In your /Applications/ folder, you will find "Sophos Remove.app" (unless you deleted it).  You need to run this to uninstall the background processes, as they don't run in userland.  No need to register (although now you have) -- searching this forum will both tell you how to remove it and also how to fix the issues you are having with it interfering with your computer.

Also note that version 8 was released today, and fixes a number of issues reported by customers.

If you deleted the uninstaller, downloading and installing version 8 should both fix your problems and re-install the uninstaller (so you can remove SAV completely).

  • Does the Autoupdate tool update version 7.3 to version 8? I tried to update through the tool but it didn't change it to version 8. Also, what is new with version 8?
    :1005751
  • A better question would be if the autoupdate feature will instantly update to version 8 or if the computer is idle or if it takes a few days for the autoupdate tool.
