8.0.3 released today

Hi everyone,

We released version 8.0.3 today, all machines running 8.0.x should update automatically at some point (might take a few hours to reach your machine). In addition to the normal detection improvements we fixed the AutoUpdate crash that plagued G3 users, improved the behavior for "stuck scans" some people have seen in the GUI, and also includes general stability improvements.

We are still on track to release 8.0.4 with fixes for the reports of kernel panics at the end of May.

  • Hi, my version 8.0.2C runs well and updates on the hour but as yet has not gone to the new version. I updated manually his morning, 10th May, and still no new version. Is there a problem or like the last comment am I too impatient. Should I manually download and update the application?

    I tried that.......the manual download of version 8 still gives 8.0.2c....not 8.0.3

  • I have been using version 7 on an old intel imac with Snow Leopard. I noticed yesterday that updating 7.x now gives me 7.3.11c. Given the large number of posts commenting on 8.x problems (such as extremely slow scanning) I wonder if there is a download for 7.3.11c if want to intall Sophos on another snow leapard based mac computer.

  • ...and still the On-Access Scanning does not work!

I had reverted back to version 7 as that was working correctly, until about 20minutes ago when it suddenly ceased to run the OnAccess Scans.

I guess it auto updated to a version that does not work correctly. So i tried the latest 8 version and that too is not allowing OnAccess Scan.

Is this something that is being looked into, or am i going to have to look elsewhere for my virus scanning?

if its any help, my mac is running OS 10.7.3  on intel i7 2.8ghz processor

edit - I just checked again and it seems the new 8.0.3 has not been included in the download version - i dowloaded the installer and i still have 8.0.2 - update button also finds nothing new.

  • "About Sophos" says I am now running 8.03, but updater just keeps running...about six hours now.

  • The data repos for both SAV 8 and SAV 7 cache local copies of the files in your physical area, meaning you'll need to wait for the local repo to be updated before you will get the most recent version.

When doing a point upgrade, this is pulled from the local data repo, and the old software is disabled as part of the install process.  This means you should see your menu bar item disappear for a few seconds, and on-access scanning will halt for a few seconds.

If this lasts longer than a couple of minutes, try restarting your computer to fully halt and re-initialize all processes -- it is possible that something has presented the new version from loading (this should not normally occur, as the update process is pretty agressive in ensuring the new version loads).

If there are still problems at this point, please report them to this thread.

  • My Sophos 8.0.2c is stubbornly refusing to update to 8.0.3 on both my Macs.

To start with a clean sheet, I uninstalled 8.0.2c with the Sophos uninstaller. Then I deleted the fifteen preference and other files which the uninstaller does not remove.

Then I downloaded a fresh copy of version 8 and installed it. This was 8.0.2c. After initial install it went through the normal updating process automatically.

At the end of this it was still 8.0.2c.

I am using a Flat panel PPC G4 on OS10.4.11

The current AV on my machine as of this morning is: V8.0.2C  Threat Detector: 3.30.0  Data 4.76

Similar to the last poster I have tried to 'force' a download of latest update, including shutting down the computer as you recommend, but the version data after install remains as quoted above.

in all other respects the AV seems to be doing what it is supposed to do.

  • As I mentioned, you need to wait for the version in your local data repo to come up to date.  This does not require a re-download of the installer; the autoupdate process will pull down the new version when it is available in your area.
