How to restart On Access Scanner

Periodically On Access Scanner turns itself (?) off. Is there some way to force it to restart other than rebooting?

    I don't know why it would turn itself off, except during automatic updating, but I turn it off and on by selecting Open Preferences in the Sophos menu, choosing On-access Scanning and, after authenticating, clicking Start Scanning.
