Can Not receive Updates

I was using VRT 2.4, It could not update, message said check Internet connection. Nothing wrong with connection I downloaded the latest version, and uninstalled 2.4, installed new version. Still get the same message.

I notice several other messages for the same problem, none have any replies.

Is there something wrong with your system that doesn't connect properly for updates.?

Still the same next day, this is a screenshot of the message I get.

Does anyone know why this is happening.?

  • I’’’’m also getting the same update problem since 03-Jun. Updated the whole package but still get the error.
Log file C:\ProgramData\Sophos\Sophos Virus Removal Tool\Logs\SophosVirusRemovalTool.log  shows

2014-06-09 02:42:44    Update error: failed to read remote metadata (error 4)

At the CMD prompt I get
       C:\Users\Allan>tracert d1.sophosupd.com

       Tracing route to a308.g.akamai.net [62.253.3.193]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

         1     *     ^C
       C:\Users\Allan>

Using Win7 Resource Monitor (Network Tab) shows

    Image                        Address
    SVRTgui.exe          host-62-253-8-146.not-set-yet.virginmedia.net
    SVRTgui.exe          host-62-253-8-193.not-set-yet.virginmedia.net
svchost.exe (NetworkService)    cache1.service.virginmedia.net        --- is the virgin dns server

I also get  ‘‘‘‘not-set-yet.virginmedia.net’’’’ addresses if I try opening the xml file with 'Notepad’’’’ (I’’’’d expect a permissions error).

To me it looks like http://d1.sophosupd.com/update/catalogue/sdds.svrt_10.xml is not being resolved by Virginmedia.com?
(I didn’’’’t have full access to e-mail last week while they were upgrading! their network.) Is this just virgin or are other ISP users getting the same problem?
