Sophos Mac isn't cleaning anything...

it says it will clean the threats, but just runs and runs... I have to force quit it.  It also doesn't list the path or filename of the infected file.  This includes;
Mal/ASFDldr-A

W32/GetCodec-A

Troj/Wimad-Gen

Troj/Dloadr-CIC

Troj/Wimad-E

Seriously, I know this is free, but can it at least give us the filenname or state it can't clean the threat and not run endlessly?   Is there one that works - I'd be willing to pay a little for a decent program.  I know most are windows infections, but I'd still like them cleaned.

Thank you.

  • If you're running a torrent client, those are all pieces of malware that are commonly found in torrented files -- the first one shows up in Windows Media files, the second bundled with dummy video files, etc.  All are Windows-targeted.  If the torrents are in multipart RAR format, Sophos will scan them, but will not delete the files, as it does not clean inside archive files.  If you deleted the archive files already, there would be no path associated.

  • I have many music files on my imac, including a number of rar archive files. When I run a scan, the program keeps "sticking" on the same files over and over and does not finish. No threat is indicated.  I deleted all but a couple of the rar files and re-ran the scan.  The scan continued to get stuck on files that I had deleted. I restarted the computer.  Same result.  Then I reinstalled Sophos.  Same result.  What am I doing wrong?
