Sophos Safeguard 5.50.116 - Decrypting External HD

We recently started using sophos safeguard.

Any information moved to an external HD, will be encrypted.

I created an encryption key and moved all of my personal files off of my work computer.

Is there a way to decrypt multiple folders instead of using sophos portable 1.50.0.2 to do each file one at a time?

  • Hi steveit,

sry for the late response but I can confirm that decrypting multiple files and folders is possible via the context menu.

For sure you have to ensure that the user is allowed to decrypt files before doing that - but that's configuration rather than usage.

  • Dan,

What about through Sophos Safeguard Portable?

  • HI steveit,

SafeGuard Portable is a offline utility for non permanent decryption. Once you have loaded the key by entering the media passphrase or the key passphrase of a key you have automatically access to any file that is encrypted on the stick - its as if the keyring was loaded.

Permanent decryption will only work on a SGN client.

  • Dan,

As I originally stated, multiple folders were moved from an SGN PC to an external hard drive. The files are encrypted and I am able to decrypt using the key, but one at a time. The problem I am facing, is that I need to be able to decrypt multiple folders and copy them to another PC that is not part of the SGN environment. Is it possible to decrypt multiple folders using Sophos Portable and move the files, once they are dectypted, from the External HD to another machine? If so, would they stay decrypted?

  • Hi stevei,

sry for not getting back to you earlier but I was on vacation.

Yes you can decrypt multiple folders as menationed but only if they are encrypted with the same key as SGPortable is unable to load mutiple keys at the same time.

Simply right click the folders > decrypt > and the copy files to and everything should be fine
