"Sorry, access to the computer is locked"

Hi I am new here, but I can't seem to get any quick help from Sophos support.  So I thought I would come here and see if anyone else has seen this issue....

When we take a machine and put a fresh image on it, and after we encrypt the local HDD.  We login past the POA and then a Safeguard Enterprise error comes up that says "Sorry, access to this computer is locked."  When we try to do a challenge on the machine and have it log into Windows automatically, it asks us to change the password.   Problem is that we are using an admin account that has a password that never expires.

The current version of the server is 5.30.  The version of the machines having the issues are 5.30 or 5.35.

Any ideas?

  • If you run challenge/response when your system is locked and it's conncted to LAN, SGN will ask you to change password.

But if your system is not connected to LAN, it will not ask you to change password

and if you select "Boot SGN client without user logon" on SGN console, it wont ask to change password either.

These are the workarounds you can try,.

    Hi Thestinger,

Thank you for posting your question on the SophosTalk community forums.

I had to reply to your post regarding the quoted statement you made. Before upgrading SGN Clients to a higher level, it's very important that the SGN backend components are upgraded beforehand. In the event something happens, such as you are describing, the new SGN Client may have unexpected recovery challenges rendering the device inoperable. Please upgrade the SGN backend components according to the included documentation and Release Notes prior to upgrading the frontend SGN Clients.

Just in case someone is out there that reads this and wants to hold me to my writing, also backup your database before you upgrade. :smileywink:
