Got a problem with SafeGuard Easy simple 5.6 local install. getting error 5001 not enough continuous disk space when installing

Low level formatted drive, chkdsk and Followed advice to defrag with a 3rd party tool, which was done 3 times. with different tools No difference.

This is on a 250 Gig hard disk with 220 Gb free (just Windows XP SP 3 and Office installed) laptop is HP ProBook 6550b. Disk was built from an image using Acronis - any ideas? Any one?

  • Hi markcap,

it would be nice to know how many partitions are on the drive? What has happened to the drive before? You are using NTFS as file system? Was the base image from an identical drive or from an different drive? What happens if you install Windows from CD > same message?

    Regards

    Dan

  • Hi,

Since disk was cloned, did you run fixmbr after applying Acronis image?

Check partitions, sometimes after cloning partition ends on nonexisting cluster (ends on cluster xxxxx90 and disk has only xxxxx87 clusters).

  • I am having the same issue with 5.60.0. Workiing with support on it now.

So far one workaround we found is to install 5.50.8 and then upgrade to 5.60.0.

I have HP 6710b hardware with 150 gig drives. Apperntly the program looks for 5 congiguus gigs of space beofore laying down the security kernel.

  • Thanks for replys - There is only one partition on the drive, Base image was from a smaller drive, NTFS is the file format. I did do a fixmbr. As a couple of you suggested looks like a partition problem which has come from my initial image. I've created a new image from scratch and looks ok now. I will try experimenting a little to see if I can make good the partition info to see if I can find what the exact problem is.

  • Hi All, I am also having this issue with a HP Compaq 6730b laptop, lots of free space and defragged / chkdsk several times.  I will try installing version 5.50.8 and then update as suggested.

Has anyone had any response from support on this yet.

  • Hello all,

I worked with Sophos Support on this. Its an issue with the way the image is laid down not sure exactly why it happens the issue was appenetly escalted to development hopeully a future version will fix the issue. You can reimage the machine by hand with a Windows CD, or you install the 5.50.8 client then upgrade to 5.60.0 either one is an acceptatble workaround.

  • ok,

so what and how to upgrade the Client from v5.5 into v5.6 companywide ?

I assume we do it first on the server and then move on to upgrade the client.

  • Hi SecurityAdmin

yep - the correct update procedure is to update the SGN database, the SGN Server (IIS), all available Management Center and then all clients.

There is also a detailed KBA in our knowledge base describing the update: http://www.sophos.com/support/knowledgebase/article/112901.html
