SGE5.50 Client (+5.40) won't install on Dell Vostro 3300, Intel i5-430M XP-Pro

Please be aware that there is a current issue installing on this platform. The machine will fail to boot after installing the SGEclient.msi I've a ticket open for testing and will be testing other i5 based laptops to see if it's a generic problem with the newer chips/chipsets or XP issue in the next couple of days on a couple of Lenovo's just arriving here.

If it works on the Lenovo's, it'll be an issue with the Dell installation or bios 'tweaks' they do. I'll report as soon as I know!

  • Yes, I had no problem on X201's or T510i's from Lenovo so this obviously isn't related to the i5 or intel chipset. It seems to be unique to Dell as I'm aware of a few models now with this problem and Sophos/Utimaco have ackowledged the fault. The issue occurrs pre-windows boot so it's not driver related.

  • Here's an odd note to add to this thread:

The Dell Latitude E5410(with an i3 processor) that we just ordered/received installs SGN perfectly, under both Vista and XP.

I wonder what the problem is with the Vostros.

  • Yes, it's certainly a strange problem. Sophos/Utimaco labs haven't informed me yet where the root cause is so that we can relay that information onto this board. We know the very latest BIOS from Dell doesn't fix the problem and similar machines from other vendors don't seem to have the same issues.

Has to be a Dell customisation that isn't being handled very well by the SGN software IMHO either BIOS or other hardware firmware.

  • I would like to say hello firstly, because I'm new on this forum.

We bought some Vostro 3300 but with i5 M560 processors and after Safeguard installation after first machine reboot I receives message "InitializeLibrary Failed 0xc0000001". Is this the same issue like above or something new one?

  • Hello Secadm,

Sophos fixed the problem in 5.50.0.116 but you must apply the latest bios update to the vostro first. I'm sure all the versions following will also be ok but we have stuck with that one for now.

  • I upgraded bios to the newest version, but this error still occurs. I have 5.50.0.116 so have You got and idea what might be wrong?

  • Hello Secadm,

5.50.0.116 solved our problem and works find on about 15 of these (admitedly slightly older models now). Your next option is to try the hot-keys one by one to see if it's a problem with a particular piece of hardware in the machine or to try the latest version, 5.60.0.192.

  • I upgraded safeguard server to 5.60.0.192 and client has been installed successfully, but after few restarts, autologon screen still appears. I added some authenticated user to this machine via Management Center, and after synchronization, I receive message that new keys and certificates received, so there is connection between server and client. I have no idea what might be wrong.
