SGE5.50 Client (+5.40) won't install on Dell Vostro 3300, Intel i5-430M XP-Pro

Please be aware that there is a current issue installing on this platform. The machine will fail to boot after installing the SGEclient.msi I've a ticket open for testing and will be testing other i5 based laptops to see if it's a generic problem with the newer chips/chipsets or XP issue in the next couple of days on a couple of Lenovo's just arriving here.

If it works on the Lenovo's, it'll be an issue with the Dell installation or bios 'tweaks' they do. I'll report as soon as I know!

  • Your first step has to be to try the function keys one by one and see if any one in particular solves your problem

  • We were receiving the "page fault" error at POA on all of our first batch of brand new HP Compaq 8200 Elite SFF desktops.  We're using SafeGuard Enterprise 5.50.0.116.  The F6 hotkey seems to work for this model.  It was a bit tricky to process any hotkeys, though.

On the monitor I was using, the HP splash screen comes up twice – once very quickly, then again for a few seconds, providing the opportunity to press ESC to enter the BIOS, etc.  I found that to process hotkeys for this computer, it is necessary to:

    1. Press and hold the shift key after the HP splash screen flashes the first time
    2. Still holding the shift key, press the F6 key at the "SafeGuard Enterprise is starting" screen
    3. Release both keys.  You should see that the “Toggle ATA compatibility mode” hotkey reports as applied.

The first time through after doing this, the computer seemed to take several minutes to proceed past the hieroglyphs page (sorry, I didn’’’’t time it), but seemed to behave normally afterwards.  I could make the "page fault" error return by using the F6 hotkey again.

    Best Wishes,

  • Can you (if you didn't do it already) send a SGNHWInfo file to hwinfo@sophos.com?
