XP frozen on 99% of encryption

 Hello Everyone,

I made a new installation of XP SP3 on a  new WD 2000GB WD20EARS (in Alignment formatted) + 1TB all looks fine.

WD20EARS

C: = 60GB

D:= 1.7TB

E:= 1TB

After installation SGE 5.5 first encryption starts running on partition D: , about 80 hours later encryption status is 99% on partition D:  and PC is frozen. Partition C: and E: is unencrypted

After reboot (power off) PC encryption status is 99% and PC frozen again

If I reboot in safety mode and use the windows explorer PC frozen again, only if I use the IE I have access to the HD and I can save my files.

OK format and new installation :smileyvery-happy:

I made a new installation of XP SP3 on a  new WD 2000GB WD20EARS (NOT in Alignment formatted) + 1TB all looks fine.

WD20EARS

C: = 60GB

D:= 1.7TB

E:= 1TB

After installation SGE 4.5.3 first encryption starts running on partition C:  later partition D.

I think SGE shows the HD’’’’s capacity wrong ... something with 7625422MB (3TB about 3000000MB)

About 80 hours later encryption status is 99% on D:  and PC is frozen, same as before. Partition E: is unencrypted.

After reboot (power off) PC encryption status is 99% and PC frozen again

I get access to my HD’’’’s only in over IE in safety mode to save my install files.

I used SGE 4.5.3 on the same hardware with 2x 1TB HD’’’’s before without any problems.

Any ideas what’’’’s wrong?  I don’’’’t want try the right settings and  install and format my PC for the next few weeks ... it’’’’s boring. :smileymad:

Maybe it’’’’s better to install XP on the 1 TB HD and use the 2 TB for data only?

Thanks for your help

  • Hello Dan,

    Thanks for your reply! Last week I made a new installation again and ran a chkdsk d: /r before encryption . Check disk found few bad clusters and bad sectors. I have ordered a new HD. The new 2TB HD is formatting at the moment, next night I will run a check disk again. Maybe the new HD fix the problem.

    Can everybody open new support case by Sophos  or do I need a service contract?

    Adding 96 bad clusters to the Bad Clusters File.

    Correcting errors in the Volume Bitmap.

    Windows has made corrections to the file system.

    1953512000 KB total disk space.

             0 KB in 1 files.

             4 KB in 9 indexes.

           384 KB in bad sectors.

        125604 KB in use by the system.

         65536 KB occupied by the log file.

    1953386008 KB available on disk.
