We've noticed after encrypting Hard Drives that we can no longer run a windows repair via the Windows CD.
Therefore no way to do a CHKDSK via the repair console.
Any light on this?
Thanks all

Hi Kpayton09,
obviously the Windows CD does not work for repair, because your hard disk is encrypted. Windows does not have access to the encrypted sectors.
If you want to use CHKDSK I propose the following workaround: Create a "virtual client" (which is a Windows PE with SGN challenge/response logon); I am not sure if the Windows PE contains CHKDSK already but it would be easy to add it. With this tool you can start an encrypted computer with this CD, logon by using challenge/response, and call CHKDSK afterwards.
For instructions how to create the "virtual client" CD, please refer to the manual and use the script provided in our installation packages.
Hope this helps you.
With compliments,
DSchwartzberg, I am haviong the same situation where a Vista machine has a corrupt registry and I want to run a repair using the repair console but cannot becaus of the Safeguard Easy encryption on th local HD.
What is the process if you want to boot off the VIsta install CD ro run a repair?
Thanks,

Hi Alfred,
Which version of SG Easy are you using? I'd guessing version 5.50 since you encrypted Vista and the versions of SGE prior to 5.50 do not support Vista.
If you are using version 5.50, you will need to use a WinPE recovery disk which includes the Sophos SGE filter drivers. Here is a great KBA on how to use the recovery keys and where you can download a Sophos pre-built WinPE ISO.
While I personally have been fortunate enough not to need to repair the registry using WinPE, what I have read about WinPE is that it's intended to be a replacement for the MS-DOS based Windows Recovery Environment which is "supposed" to be included in WAIK from Microsoft. I believe the Sophos WinPE version may still contain the Windows Recovery Environment. Please make sure you can test this on an unencrypted test device beforehand. Once you are comfortable with how WinPE works, use the Sophos recommneded steps to repair the registry on your encrypted device found in the KBA I referred to above.
Thank for your post and please let us know how it turns out.
