SafeGuard Enterprise crashes at shutdown

I have a PC here at work running Windows XP - SP2. Recently SafeGuard Enterprise 5.35.3.35 was rolled out. Now the PC gets an error every time it is shutdown. The error is: SGNMaster.exe - Application Error The instruction at "0x0196c548" refrenced memory at "0x00000000". The memory could not be "written". This happens at every shutdown. This is the only program that seems to get the error. I'm just wondering if anyone else has run into a similar problem and if there is a resolution. Thanks

  • There is a patch for 5.4 version, the release notes state it's just for 5.4 but I would give it a shot if you have nothing to lose. http://www.sophos.com/support/knowledgebase/article/67375.html

  • Yup, the patch is what fixes it. But I thought this issue started with SGN 5.40 (Thats when we started seeing it). If I recall correctly the .msp won't apply to a 5.35 install though.

  • HI all, let me provide you with some info on this: Actually the issue that a machine shows an SGNMaster.exe issue during shut down has been observed with SGN 5.35.3 very rarely. We addressed this issue with an extra patch compatible only with version 5.40 of SGN. The patch canno't be applied to a version earlier. Besides this there is no patch available for versions earlier to 5.40 of SGN. So the best way to sort this out would be to update the machine to 5.40 and then to apply the patch. Please note that this steps would also require an update of the back end (SafeGuard Enterprise Management Center and the SafeGuard Enterprise Server). I would anyway recommend to take these steps since version 5.40 has several improvements and bug fixes compared to the version before which makes thinking about an update worthwhile. Regards Dan

  • Thanks very much for all the responses. Unfortunately I am unable to update the software. That needs to be done by our corporate IT group. Until they decide to move to that version there's not much I can do to update the software. Maybe I'll see if I can get them to allow an uninstall and reinstall.

    Thanks again.

  • Hi MaxPower

Have logged a call with Sophos for this (and posted the same problem last week).  We are using v5.40 (+ patch) and still get this error from time to time (some machines worse that others).

Did you manage to resolve your problems?

    Thanks

    Matt
