Differences PureMessage Versions

Hi all,

anyone using PureMessage for Exchange AND for Unix?

We're thinking of a scenario using the Unix version on our smtp edge servers (at the moment Unix PMX systems) and the Exchange version on our internal Exchange.

Is it possible to use a CSM for both stages? Is it possible to use a consolidated quarantine? Are there any problems in using both versions together?

  • Hi Wolfgang,

We have numerous customers who run both Puremessage for Unix and Exchange. This way, you can benefit from having your existing Unix infrastructure to handle the initial SMTP scan, but leave an on-going Exchange store scan in case a virus definition wasn't available at the time. As well, you gain the ability for redundant systems in case something takes down one of your environments.

The main issue is they use separate databases, so you cannot consolidate quarantines between versions. Our usual recommendation would be to ensure that quarantine actions only occur through one of those products to ensure users don't have to check two resources for quarantined email. Most of the time, we see Puremessage for Unix handle the quarantine actions, leaving the Exchange policy to include non-quarantine actions.

Let us know if there's anything else!
