As long-term users of PureMessage we've just updated to a 64-bit Slackware distribution. For legacy reasons Slackware is our only option (due to /etc/passwd file compatibility). While I understand Slackware isn't a supported platform we were able to get it working using "Alien multilibs" to enable support for 32-bit binaries. While successful this solution seems less than elegant. I'm especially concerned about the need for 3rd party glibc/gcc when these packages are such an important part of the system. My question is: What is the status of 64-bit support? Is it likely to remain a hybrid 32/64 bit product for long? Are the 32-bit parts essential or can they be bypassed? Frankly I'd feel safer modifying Sophos than glibc. I'm hoping there are options I've overlooked.
