AP switch?

Hi
Just purchased my first AP 50. A little confused on how the APs works. How do the APs communicate back to the UTM, do the APs need their own switch/vlan to segregate traffic, or do they create a tunnel back to the UTM. 

Just wondering if I need a new switch/vlan for them, or can I basically put them on my internal switch without worry of public AP users having access to the internal network.
