MAC Address support for Web Filtering

Newbie, but playing around with Sophos UTM can see the powerful features it has to make some decisions on which UTM product to use going forward.

I see the MAC Address list functionality underneath Network Definitions and the ability to setup a firewall rule with that, but assume at present, there is no way to setup the same on the Web Filtering side, and best bet is fixed IPs or an authentication policy?  Although the device-specific authentication configuration is very useful.

Thanks!

  • You are correct that the Web Filtering Proxy does not support MAC filtering. This can only be used for firewall rules, wi-fi, and RED. In Web Filtering, you can differentiate by IP in the Allowed Networks box in the proxy profile or via authentication in policies for application of different filter actions.
