Parent Proxies

Hello my query relates to sophos 9.3. Specifically webprotection -> webfiltering ->policies-> content filter-> additional options-> parent proxies

When a Http proxy is used when certain hosts are matched ie domain name , does the proxy connect then , or is it a permanent connection that is always established ? 

I would like to redirect a number of internal hosts when they access certain domains however the http proxy account only allows single authentication?
