I've search on the forums and haven't really found anything addressing this, maybe others aren't having the issue or need.
I am beginning to set up web filtering profiles with quotas (mostly for our student wireless connections which happens to be iPhones, Android phones, iPads, etc.). The reason for this is a large portion of our bandwidth is being used by them mostly through specific locations such as YouTube, Apple.com/itunes, and other downloads.
I can simply set a quota for youtube.com and that does limit them to X amount of time, which works great. I can also use the QoS settings to throttle the bandwidth for their source network to have them slow down a bit. The second users start using a YouTube app, the quota is ignored, the QoS bandwidth seems to apply, but that's about it.
Similarly there it doesn't seem like there's a way to put a quota on "apps" like there is with the web filtering browsing. With apps coming out for just about everything, most of these devices are going through the apps rather than the traditional browser.
Another thing that seems to be happening is the "block downloads larger than X" that is a great feature for web filtering does absolutely nothing for apps/app stores. So trying to stop students from downloading files larger than 50MB still allows them to go and download an app from the store that is 2GB. Again, I can throttle the app bandwidth to go slower, however it still does not stop it from happening.
Is there a way or anything in plans to put bandwidth "caps" on anything or add some of the settings available for web filtering to the application control such as quotas, download blocks, etc. that would allow more control over OS apps?
