Apple Software Update not working even after UTM CA cert applied

We're setting up a Sophos UTM, but we are finding with the Macs in our organisation, even after we install the UTM's root CA certificate into its System keychain, the Apple Software Update does not work. It fails with the error:

NSURLErrorDomain error -1012

This happens whether we go in through the GUI (App Store) or on the command line with the softwareupdate utility.

After installing the certificate, the App Store itself works, it's just Software Update that doesn't.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi, Dan, and welcome to the User BB!

That error has not been discussed here before. I would turn to Apple support for a reason for the error and possible resolutions. To see what the UTM is doing, check the Web Filtering log file and #1 in Rulz. Any luck?

We did have an exception for Apple Software Update but the tickbox to exclude it from HTTPS scanning was not ticked - this turned out to solve the problem.
