Can I Quota Facetime?

Hi

Just trying to find out whether it's possible to put a quota on facetime? I'm using UTM 9.3 as a home deployment and I have a child that is obsessed with facetime to the point where it's a struggle to get her off it (short of just blocking it of course, which I want to avoid). Ideally if I could apply a quota of say an hour a day maximum, that would be ideal.

On my network, Apple devices use a transparent proxy with URL filtering only.

Any advice would be appreciated

    which version of utm?  if 9.2x nopers as live logging is broken.  if 9.3 kinda.  YOu have to see if facetime's ip is classified via the web filter..if it is then you can quota that category for that user's account. 

    you can make a filtering profile for that user and quota any category not blocked.  Then when that time is used up the access is denied.

    Thanks for taking the time to reply.

    I'm using UTM 9.3, so should be possible? Do you have a rough guide on how to do this? It doesn't need to be a step by step necessarily, but it's just that I tried looking at setting facetime as a category and applying a quota that way, but when I see the quota option (drop down menu where it says block/warn/allow/quota), I didn't understand what the configuration the quota option was using/based on.

    When you set a category to use quota, then go to the Additional Options Tab.  Here you set the time limit for the quota.

    Quotas

    Enter or change the time of the Allowed minutes for all categories and tags included in quota option.

    Note – All site categories and tags that have been set to Quota will count towards available quota time. Available quota time resets at midnight, or can be reset manually on the Web Protection > Policy Helpdesk > Quota Status page.



    As Facetime is recognized by application control, alternately you can setup an application based QoS rule that after X amount of data passed for that application, the allowed bandwidth will be throttled to a point so low as to make Facetime unusable.

    however since you want to make it only for your child's device you will have to create a separate profile with the network set as your child's device and then add the quota there or you will quota the entire network..[[:)]]
