Application control abd virus scanning?

Does enabling an application in application control enable virus scanning etc?

If it does, that then would enable control without using the proxy and provide a performance improvement? Should also reduce the number of exceptions in the webproxy?

Thoughts, discussion or am I just plain missing the function of application control?

    application control is just that..it identifies and gives you the ability to block or QOS a certain application without having to muck with the entire interface.  A/v is a totally separate function.
