Problem enforcing web filters

Hi,

I am new to UTM thing.. I have just setup the home UTM on VM and it is working fine. I am running the web filtering in standard mode (and I believe this should enforce clients to configure proxy settings) now I hae blocked some URL's and if I enter the UTM ip as proxy server in clients with 8080 port and try to browse those URL's I get the block message but If I remove the proxy then still the clients can browse internet and withour any restriction.. even I cannot see their IP address in live log view.. What am I doing wrong here? Please advise

    Is UTM IP address defined as a default gateway for the clients ? Check your Firewall rules.

    Do you have a firewall rule allowing your internal network web surfing e.g. Internal > web surfing (http/s) > any?

    If so I think if you disable the proxy settings on the clients, they will be allowed out via that rule.
    Disable it and try again.

    However doing that will mean any client that doesn't have browser configured won't be allowed out.

    I believe (haven't tried it myself) setting the proxy in transparent mode will allow you to use browser configuration on clients as well, then any clients that don't have browser configured (for example servers may not) will still proxy transparently.
