New Web filtering setup - Need Help

Everyone,

We have a client that has requested that we enable web filtering for them. (no big deal) however, they would like the end user to be able to request un-filtered access if they want (for example check a box) and then be able to surf un-filtered until their session ends and then start all over

I normally run all web filtering in transparent mode so that I do not have to set proxy settings on the firewall.  However, I do realize that this case may not be that easy.  Any assistance in the setup would be greatly appreciated.

    Two options come to mind.

    The first is in 9.2 you can set categories to "Warn" instead of "Block".  Every warning page has a Proceed button.  Clicking it will give you access to that site for...  I think 15 minutes.  Warn can also be done for file and mime types.

    The second is the Block Bypass.  This is available from at least 9.0.  Configure users that are allowed to Bypass blocking then every Block page has an Unblock button.  Click that and you have to login as that user with permission to bypass.  Give you access for...  not sure, maybe 15 or 30 minutes.

    Both options will still filter for viruses, etc.  But they wont block for category and filetype.  There is no want to do a temporary complete bypass.  Permanent complete bypass can be done in transparent mode using the source skiplist.

    Your idea of "warn" instead of "Block" sounds like it may be what we are looking for.  However, I cannot find this potion in my categories.  Can you point me  in the right direction, we are running 9.203-3

    Ok, so I have found and tested the "Warn" option above.  This appears to be what we would be looking for.  However, is there a way to modifiy or add to the warning that appears to the user?

    For instance to add a disclaimer message.  Also can you log every time a user clicks to bypass the filter?

    Under Management, Customization, Web Messages you can change the text that appears for Content Warn.  You can also write your own block/warn/etc pages completely (HTML knowledge required) under Web Templates.

    For reporting go to Logging and Reporting, Web Protection.  Choose an available report such as "Users with URLs".  Click the Plus to add a Filter.  Choose "Action" and "Proceeded".  This will give you a report of every time the Proceed button was clicked.

    In log form, go to Logging and Reporting, View Log Files, Search Log Files, Web Filtering.
    Choose the Action as Proceeded.
