Web Filtering

Been an Astaro home user for many years. I never used Web Filtering in the past. I use the Software Appliance at home with approximately 35 devices behind the firewall. Traditionally, I masquerade all internal web traffic to the address of the external interface. I have 2 firewall rules, 1 that allows all internal traffic out, and another that blocks all inbound traffic on the external interface. Pretty simple and has never given me issues. For my setup is there an advantage to using Web Filtering?

    Web filtering allows you to block malicious sites.- this in its self is really beneficial. Also you can have it scan downloads before it even reaches your computer. And block certain file types that viruses sometimes download on (i.e .vbs, .bat, etc)

    Also if you have kids you can create profiles to suit (i.e no naughty sites, etc) or perhaps you want to create a guest wireless network.... you can set "guests" to only go to certain sites and block or slow applications such as youtube/facebook so they don't jam up your internet.

    However, you may have an antivirus scanner thats already doing this (i.e sophos antivirus with web protection) in this case no its not really needed.
