Arrgg! I just want to block **** on my son's computer...

So, I've gone through the pain of learning and installing a UTM on my own equipment for the specific purpose of blocking {naughty images and videos} on my son't computer, ipod touch and tablet...

I've got almost all of it squashed, but he keeps poking holes in it...  And I keep blocking it. (thank god he doesn't know to wipe his browsing history yet)

Anyway, now his mother found that he's using google to search for {mammary glands} images.  He can't get to the source sites, but google sure is happy to show image search results...  I can't seem to block that, and I can't get google safesearch to be enforced...  (and he seems to have figured out to log into google on his gmail account)

What do I need to do next?  I'm a proxy n00b, but I expect someone's going to tell me to enable a proxy...

    Please state the version of UTM (9.105-9?) and say whether Web Filtering is in a Transparent or Standard mode.

    Hi, the UTM has a web proxy built-in, under Web Protection.

    Even if he wipes his history, you can look at the proxy logs.

    UTM 9.103-5, and web filtering is in Transparent mode.  Apparently I have 2 updates to install.  I'll go ahead and run that.

    I need to be as unobtrusive as possible to mine and my wife's computers, but I need to filter my son's computer, ipod touch and his android tablet.

    There's no easy way to lock things down completely, and there are a lot of different approaches.  The tightest would be:
      Create a User for each family member
    • In Web Filtering Profiles, create two or more Filter Actions for children and parents
    • Create Filter Assignment(s) for each person.  Note that you could have different Filter Actions assigned based on the time of the day.
    • Create a Profile in Standard mode with Basic Authentication
    • Configure a device to use the Proxy, test, adjust and then configure all devices
    • Disable the Web Surfing rule created in 'Firewall' by the Installation Wizard
    • Make the Default Profile (the first three tabs in 'Web Filtering') very tight for guests and children

    It will take you awhile and some learning to do all that.

    In the URL Filtering tab, make sure the the SafeSearch options are all on, for all profiles.  This should enforce SafeSearch regardless of his personal Google Account setting.  If Google is showing things even though SafeSearch is on (you can test it yourself) then report to them.

    Hi, note that Google uses SSL for a lot of their traffic now; you'll probably need to enable transparent https scanning for at least your son's computer.
