URL Filtering: Additional URLs/sites to block

I'm having trouble figuring out how to use this new method of allowing or blocking websites found on Web Filtering > URL Filtering > Additional URLs/sites to block.

In order to test whether I had it working correctly, I decided to try to block a site I really like. According to the documentation "you have to enter the entire domain name, including e.g. www."

So here is how I tried to block the site:
1. Clicked the + to Add a new rule.
2. Named the profile, and typed in (without quotes) "www.example.com"
3. Clicked Save
4. Clicked Apply

I then went to browse to that website and lo and behold - no blocking occurred. So I thought, perhaps I'm misreading something. So I then changed the rule to list "www.example.com" instead of just "www.example.com" and it still refused to block.

What am I doing wrong? This used to work before they added the regex patterns and now I can't figure out why it doesn't work. Tried searching the forum but couldn't find anything so I decided to post.

Can anyone help me with this?

    So, you're saying that everything used to work, but now doesn't?  When you look at 'LAN Settings' for your browser, is 'Use a proxy ...' checked?  Have you changed DHCP or your PAC file recently?

    Hi Bob,

    I went looking through my daily executive reports and found that filtering was working as of August 3rd but the report from August 4th shows no blocking of any kind. According to my records I updated firmware on Aug 10th, so that can't be the cause.

    Just for kicks, I totally eliminated the PAC file today to see if that was the cause but when I surf the internet, it still fails to register activity in the Web Log (although I am now getting blocked requests for computers trying to hit locate the PAC file now that's it's removed - but no other web surfing activity). (Oh and yes, for IE I was using the Auto Detect Settings - Firefox I was using http://{IP address}:8080/wpad.dat   due to some firefox bug I guess not being able to auto detect properly)

    Regarding DHCP, I haven't made any changes to that other than the change that Sophos made where I can no longer add Static Mappings from Network Services > DHCP > Static mappings and instead have to create a Network Host definition.

    Any other ideas?
