[9.102][BUG]I just want to unblock a domain. v8 was easy, v9 nightmare!

Been using ASG for a couple years now.  Have kids in the house, so have quite a few categories blocked under Web Filtering.

Sometimes we want to allow one particular domain through the firewall.  In version 8, I simply added the domain under "always allow these URLs/sites" and boom, done.

In v9 (9.100-16 currently), it is a nightmare.  I just can't seem to figure out the voodoo magic to making it work.  I am sure it is simple, but I have spent so much time on it, I am giving up and asking for help.

Under "Always allow these URLs/sites" I click the plus sign, give it a name, click the plus sign next to "Domains", enter in the domain (example.com) and click Apply.  Then "Save", then lastly click "Apply" under the main "URL filter" box.  It should start blocking right?  No it does not.

I have then turned off and on Web Filtering (on Global tab) for good measure.  No, still blocks.

I have checked that it's not just my browser caching the block by trying another browser... still blocked.

Looking at the live log, it's definitely being blocked:

    Hi ,

    In 9.100-16 you have to put full domain name not only the domain if you want it to be allowed.
    Example : http://www.yourdomain.com.
    Adding only yourdomain.com.
    You can also put the domain instead of that like you want in the expression and then you can put yourdomain.com there instead of allow domain where you put it.
    If you want only a page of the domain then you add the full domain in always allow and only the expression in the expression tab.

    Hi Gilipeled.  Thank you for helping, but I'm not sure I understand.

    Let's say I want to unblock all web pages at www.example.com (no filtering at all for any web page on this entire website) -- what should I enter, and where should I put it

    Also, what if I want to unblock all subdomains of this domain as well... for example abc.example.com, 123.example.com, etc.?

    Just put the domain in expression like I told you.
    Don't put the domain in allow domain .
    Put the expression like yourdomain.com in expression , it will allow it and all the sub domains .

    Thank you!!! It is working now.  The problem appears to be the imported list of expressions from version 8.  I have an auto-created (imported) entry called "Any domain expressions" that appear to have been imported when I upgraded from v8 to v9.  Adding the domain as an expression there didn't seem to work.  However, when I created a brand new entry in "always allow these URLs/sites" and then added example.com into the "Regular Expressions" area, it WORKS!

    That's what I told you :-) 

    To add it to expression like you did , it is called regular expression instead of putting  it in domain expression .
    Happy it is working now for you :-).

    Hi Gilipeled. I do not think you are understanding the problem.  I used Regular Expression before, but it did not work.  But it was using the object that Astaro auto-generated during the conversion from v8 to v9.

    By removing it from "Regular Expressions" in that object, and creating a new object then adding the SAME DOMAIN in "Regular Expressions" in the new object... now it works.

    I've been testing the theory and I am able to duplicate the problem.  Adding a domain using the existing auto-created object fails to unblock, but adding the same domain to a NEW object, works fine.  In both scenarios, I am using "Regular Expressions"

    I do thank you for your help... by telling me it SHOULD work as a Regular Expression, pushed me to try it as a separate object, and this worked fine.

    Sorry, I wasn't very clear... I was definitely doing it wrong at first (adding it as a Domain)... but after you had me use Regular Expression, it did not work, since I used the existing object.  Creating a brand new object AND using Regular Expression to insert the domain was the winner.

    Scott, the other thing you could have done was to create an Exception.  I think there's an acknowledged bug that you found that should be fixed in 9.101.

    Hi,

    I had the same problem. It was not possible to add a regular expresion to the automatic converted string list. This list was called "Any Reqular Expressions" by default. When I tried to add a regular expression, an error popped up that the list already exsists. I added a new list for my regularexpressions (and for domains as well) but thoese two lists hat no impact to the webfilter. That means that a domain was furthermore blocked. 

    After renaming the default "Any Reqular Expressions" it was possible to add new reg. expressions to it and the regular expressions out of my others lists are working like charme, now. 

    In total: Try to rename the list.

    P.S.: My firmware is 9.102-8
