Which is more resource intensive?

Hi -
ASG 625, Version 8.309. I'm trying to reconcile lists of blocked and allowed sites.  We have short lists of Allowed Sites at the Filter Actions level in Web Security>>Web Filtering Profiles>>Filter Actions tab.
We also have an exceptions list in Web Security>>Web Filtering Profiles>>Exceptions tab. Some items are duplicated. I want to confirm the performance of the Allowed Sites at the Filter Actions tab.
Question: Does the Filter Actions Allowed Sites tab require less resources for the Astaro to process than the Web Filtering Profiles Exceptions tab?
Does the normal set of filtering actions still apply to a site listed in the Allowed Sites tab, or does it skip those checks?

    Hi, Gary,

    My understanding is that Exceptions are evaluated for all accesses, so you might be better off to have fewer lines there by using the Block/Allow boxes on the 'URL Filtering' tab instead.  I suspect that minimizing the number of pattern matches is the key, and that you just need a REGEX guru to help you with that.

    How to optimize this all in a heavily-used ASG is a great question though, so I would as your reseller to submit it to Support.

    Okay, great thanks for the response. I think what you're saying is, since it's going to go through the exceptions list and apply all that processing, move the globally allowed sites where possible out to the "Allow" or "Block". the Exceptions list is more resource intensive, and that makes sense. Unfortunately, I set up my "structure" that there are limited categories allowed for everyone, then there's a short list (300 sites!) of pre-approved sites that all staff can get to, and I used the Exceptions list to build that. Some sites actually need to have certain elements not processed, like Antivirus, or authentication. This far along, I can't recall which sites couldn't tolerate some of the filtering. I guess I'll need to maintain both lists no matter what! Thanks for the response.
