Some sites don't work unless web proxy is turned on

I turned off web filtering due to memory issues on my ASG220 running  9.004-34.

I recently started noticing I could not get to some web sites, like NHL.com. It just hangs when trying to load.

I decided to turn back on the web filtering and the sites load fine now.

Any idea why sites would hang when web filtering is off?
