A/V Exceptions

Is is possible to have all PDF files skipped from the A/V scanning?

A lot of the sites our students and teachers visit are PDF files.  With the scanning turned on, the PDF is downloaded and scanned and then the user has to save then open the file or right-click on the on the icon and choose "Open in new window".

This really defeats the purpose of having the Acrobat Reader plugin installed to view the the document in IE.

Basically, I want any PDF file from any site to just display in the browser like a HTM file does instead of having to be downloaded first.

Is this something that can be easily accomplished?

    This sounds to me like the download manager.  Can you look in your help under Management > Customization > Download Manager and see if that matches what you are seeing?

    If you right click and Open in New Window, doesn't it use the acrobat reader plugin and display it in IE?

    Michael - Yes, any semi literate person who will actually take the time to read the screens presented to them would be able to figure out how to open the PDF file in question.  Yes, right-click Open does result in the file opening in the window.

    What I am having to deal with, daily, are a bunch of Elementary - High school teachers and students who see the sites differently "at home".  When they click on the link to the PDF they expect to see a progress bar in the middle of their screen and then be shown the PDF once it has finished loading.

    They are totally confused by the "right-click to ""whatever"" message they are seeing.  This message is only shown when the PDF files are scanned.  

    We went the past 4 years with our other web content filter displaying these files right in their browser and the change has them upset.

    So I disable the A/V for that site and move on.  Each workstation has it's own local A/V installed and hopefully the major textbook companies have the resources in place to ensure that the files that they are hosting are virus free.
