Can someone confirm this command is correct.

My gateway is running the latest stable release of Sophos UTM. Our gateway has an intel SSD as well as way more RAM then the gateway needs so I want to ensure that the webfilter dose it caching in ram because we can easily spare the ram and I want to limit writes to the SSD since SSD's have a limited write count. Yes I know today's SSD are much better at this, still this seems like something that would save a lot of writes over years of usage.

I have done some googling and I think I have correct command but before I actually execute the command on the gateway I wanted to post it here and make sure I am not about to do something foolish.

What I have worked out is this:


cc set http sc_local_db ram

If you KNOW please confirm/deny for me. If you want and its wrong correct me but if your busy a simple, "that's wrong" would be really helpful so I know to go and do more research. If you are unsure, please don't guess.

Also, it has occurred to me that maybe it is set this way by default since it detected the SSD on install and set up the fstab with the correct flags. So if this is the case and you know the command I can give to confirm that this is actually set correctly that would be helpful. (Experience causes me to not trust installers and confirm things are as they should be)

cc set http sc_local_db is correct, but the mode is not.  Your choices are:
none  -turn it off
mem   -run from memory
disk    -run off hard drive

Before you decide whether to run in mem or disk mode, keep in mind that the database is ~400MB.

After you run the above command, restart the web proxy with:
/var/mdw/scripts/httpproxy restart

Once this is done, the database will begin downloading for use.

Just to make that clear:
The command you've posted does NOT cause the proxy to move its cache into the RAM.
sc_local_db is an (unsupported) command that causes the proxy to cache the URL filtering database instead of requesting classifications 'from the cloud'. The default for this feature is 'off'.

Hello. if I choose the mem option, what happens if the system restarts? does it have to download again the database from the internet, or it keeps also a local copy and loads it to ram instantly?

Yes.
It also reloads when there are updates to the database.

Hello. I see traffic to 'cffsxx.astaro.com', where xx is 24,18,08,16,15,03,06,14,07.
What is this traffic?. Is it for categorization check? I run the mem command last weekend.
