Standard Mode of Web Filtering

We have been having some minor issues with web pages timing out and having to add a lot of exceptions or bank webpages not working with HTTPS scanning in transparent mode set.

So I have been reading on standard mode as a possibility to solve these problems. In standard mode with https scanning enabled and the astaro firewall as the proxy does the astaro insert itself into the ssl handshaking like in transparent mode?

Also, I was wondering if any applications go through the proxy besides the browsers?  We have some systems that authenticate using ssl and we don't really need to go through the proxy server because there is no risk of what they do.

    That's how I think it works, however, I'm unsure of the mechanism by which filtering occurs.

    I don't understand how the user's browser does the handshaking, but the Astaro Proxy has the ability to block URLs.  I know, when the client is configured for a Proxy, that it sends additional information, but I don't know what.

    Perhaps someone else can complete our understanding ...

    This morning I tried a test of using standard mode with my pc setup to point to the astaro as a proxy.  Everything seemed to work as i expected, but I could not log into the astar after I had made those changes.  It was only when I turned off the proxy settings that it allowed me to log in.  Does someone know why that would have happened?

    You need to exclude the address of the Astaro in your client's proxy server config.

    For IE/Windows you would go to Internet Options > Connections > Lan Settings > Proxy Server > Advanced and enter the address there.  You can also just put in x.x.x.* and exclude your entire subnet.
